Catriona Reid: Director
Catriona has 8 years of experience as a fire engineer, and is also working towards achieving her Chartership via the Institution of Fire Engineers.
Tell us about your path to fire engineering?
I have always been interested in design and had thoughts to study architecture, but took a slight change of direction and decided to study Mechanical Engineering instead, at The University of Edinburgh. By the end of five years, I was looking for a bit of a change and applied for a graduate job as a fire engineer. This turned out to be a great decision as I found a field where I could balance creativity and technical engineering with designing for human response.
What has been your favourite project?
A hard question as I've had the privilege to work on lots of amazing projects. The Ellison Institute of Technology in Oxford has to stand out as something I'm really proud of. A large campus with lots of different uses and goals, with an incredible and unique design by Foster + Partners, all delivered through a brilliant and collaborative team. Certainly a big challenge, but an amazing opportunity and a project I'm looking forward to seeing reach completion.
What are your goals for Mars Fire Engineering?
I believe our team at Mars combines a great range of experience and expertise with a dynamic, forward-thinking spirit. We are committed to delivering not only competent and practical technical guidance, but also to building trust with our clients and design teams so that the projects we work on can progress with genuine collaboration. Our focus is on creating meaningful partnerships, helping drive positive momentum throughout the industry, and fostering a culture where everyone feels supported and valued.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love to travel and embrace new experiences; whether midges on a new Munro or trying a new food somewhere further from home. Unless I'm at home, where there always seems to be something else needing painting…
